Fox Fifty-Fail
Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 9:22PM My local FOX station, WZDX FOX54 made a pretty big fuck up today. They thought it would be more beneficial to them to air poker than to air an NFL game featuring the franchise that is closest to them geographically. The NFL team that is probably the most popular NFL team in the entire area.
Here was the situation they had. The Falcons, who normally air on FOX54, played at noon. The Titans were playing the Rams at 3PM. FOX had television coverage of the game. So there was no conflict between the Titans and the Falcons. As I mentioned the Titans are pretty much the favorite team around these parts. Not only does 54 cover north Alabama, but they cover portions of southern middle Tennessee. You know Tennessee as in the Tennessee Titans. Yeah those people who aren't in signal coverage of Nashville may have wanted to see their team play as well. What FOX54 basically said was we don't need the viewers to watch our channel and our advertisers. Instead we will let them watch the Cowboys game on CBS and go to the internet and radio to follow the Titans game.
Another thing that gets me is that 54 airs the Titans magazine show, Titans All-Access. You would think that if they made the commitment to that show that they would jump at every chance to air a live Titans game. Nope, they think that poker will be the better draw. WZDX failed hard on this one. I hope that the Titans don't have any more games on FOX out of fear that my local affiliate won't air it.
I did send a complaint email via their contact page. It will be interesting if I get a reply back.
Got a response from FOX54. Apparently they couldn't air the double header so they had to choose the better game of the two. So they were put in a hard spot and chose to air the Falcons v Saints.
Daniel:Since this was a singleheader week, WZDX had to make a decision between showing the 12P game (Saints vs. Falcons) or the 3P Tennessee game. Due to the records of both the Saints and the Falcons, we felt that this would be a better game, as well as a game that would be just as relevant to our market, considering the many Saints and Falcons fans that reside here. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.Programming
